A member of the Somerset family since 2016, Mrs. Steele brings over eight years of both teaching and leadership experience to her new role as Assistant Principal. Mrs. Steele recognizes and is motivated by the tremendous ability educators have to influence and impact students’ lives. As such, she works every day to cultivate a collaborative school culture, in which all members work together to support students in their pursuit of academic excellence and personal success.
A Miami native, Mrs. Steele graduated from Coral Gables Senior High School before continuing her studies at Florida State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She went on to gain invaluable experience in the luxury hotel industry, while working in the executive office, human resources, and public relations. In 2010, Mrs. Steele answered her calling to make a difference and began teaching middle school science in the Miami-Dade County Public School system and was recognized at her school as Rookie Teacher of the Year.
In 2014, she relocated to Boston, MA to serve as the Assistant Director of a non-profit enrichment program aimed at closing the opportunity gap for students from underserved Boston communities. In her role, Mrs. Steele developed and managed a robust alumni support program that achieved a 98% student attendance rate and an almost 15% increase in overall student GPA. She built and maintained partnerships with over 30 local schools and non-profit organizations to ensure alumni academic success, socio-emotional wellbeing and college access. Inspired by her students’ tenacity, she enrolled in Boston College and earned her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. Most recently, she served as the Curriculum Specialist for Somerset Academy South Homestead.
Mrs. Steele is a lifelong learner and a champion for education. She is driven by a belief in the power of authentic human connection, and is committed to being a relentless supporter of the school community.
