As an avid lover of learning and personal connections, Ms. Carolyn Andrade enwraps herself in her role as Somerset Academy South Homestead’s Activities Director. Since birth, she has been a fireball of energy, laughter, and passion. Ms. Andrade is a Musical Theater alum from New World School of the Arts. Now her performances take place in the spirit filled student halls of SASH.
Aside from being a proud Hurricane, Ms. Andrade is also an FIU Panther as well as an FSU Seminole. Pursuing her love for students with special needs, made Ms. Andrade dedicate her studies to Special Education. She attended Florida International University where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degree. During this time, Ms. Andrade spent some of her best summers working with UM-NSU Card’s Summer Camp for children with Autism. This place has a very special place in her heart for it allows her the opportunity to refill, reset, and reflect on what truly matters: the gift of each child and the unique magic they possess.
True to her Florida roots, Ms. Andrade then embarked on her leadership journey and earned her Specialist degree from Florida State University. Ms. Andrade has been teaching for 10 years. She has taught in diverse settings and can easily accommodate to the needs of the students she is servicing. Her teaching experience began as an ESE English IV teacher at Miami Sunset Senior High where she taught for 3 years. She then taught Language Arts for 1 year at Allapattah Middle School. Ms. Andrade then moved over to the charter community and was the English Department Chair at Doral Academy for 4 years. Her remaining years have been dedicated to Somerset Academy South Homestead where she has been the ESOL and Gifted Coordinator, EESAC Chair, and Activities Director.
