Ms. Jessica Mesa started her life-long career as an educator in 2008. Her journey began at Somerset City Arts Conservatory, where she taught 1st- 4th grade throughout her six years there. Her passion for education was evident from the very beginning and, as a result, she was recognized with the Teacher of the Year award in 2012.
Ms. Mesa was born and raised in Miami, where she graduated from Coral Reef Senior High School. She continued her studies at Florida International University earning a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. As she continued gaining classroom experience, she was given the opportunity to acquire many administrative responsibilities that prompted her to pursue her master’s degree in Educational Leadership. After obtaining her master’s degree, she became the Lead Teacher at Somerset Academy South Homestead Middle/High. This was a new challenge and huge undertaking, since she only had experience in the elementary school setting. In 2015, she became the Assistant Principal at S.A.S.H. and has continued motivating students and assisting them in their path toward graduation.
Ms. Mesa views a collaborative school environment as one of the most important factors in creating successful teachers and students. She believes that building relationships with parents and the community are essential to enriching the experience at Somerset Academy South Homestead.
