Mrs. Ivonne Casiano has been a 7th and 8th grade Science teacher at Miami Dade County Public Schools for the past 15 years. She graduated in 1988 from Inter American University of Puerto Rico with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. In 1997, she decided to return to school and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education. After a year of hard work she graduated and received the certification as a Science teacher for Puerto Rico Commonwealth. During the first years of teaching in Puerto Rico, she taught Science and Mathematics from 3rd grade to 8th grade in a small private school.
Mrs. Casiano holds a professional certificate for Biology (6- 12) for the state of Florida. She holds a Masters degree in Science on Instructional Design and Diversity Education.
In 2006, Mrs. Casiano became a mentor to first year teachers helping them align classroom instruction and assessment with the Sunshine State Standards and the district Competency-Based Curriculum.
She has received training in RTI (response to intervention), Creating Independence through Student Owned Strategies (CRISS), Reading Plus, Instructional Improvement and Differentiated Instruction for Struggling Readers, Mathematics and Science Training for Teachers.
Her greatest contributions to education lie in the achievement of her students and in her commitment to enhancing the teaching practice.
